Treating Depression With Herbs
Wednesday, September 26th, 2007Depression is one of the leading caused of suicide and should be treated as soon as possible. Billions of dollars are spent each year treating depression. They best way to treat depression are to talk to or confide in someone close to you. Be it your husband/wife, your best friend or your parents. You should try and find someone who can listen to you with patience and should have a warm and caring attitude.
If depression seems to affect your life adversely you should consider going in for professional help. You should go for antidepressant therapy or psychotherapy depending upon what your doctor suggests. You should avoid chemical treatments as much as possible and go for natural treatments even if it takes a lot longer than chemical treatment because there is a risk of rollback when you stop talking your medication thinking you are cured now. You should try talking to other people suffering from depression and talk about how the is recovering from it.
A number of drugs are available in the market if you decide to go in for chemical treatment. Most of these drugs work by balancing our hormones i.e. increasing the ones, which are low in our body and decreasing the ones, which are high and causing depression.
Herbs can also be used to treat depression, the benefit being that they can be taken with tea, milk or plain water. They are also a lot cheaper than medicines. The use of the herb St. John’s Wart has been proven to be one of the most effective
ways of treating depression. It has been widely used because it has a lot less side effects as other medicines. Homeopathy is another effective way of treating depression because it also has almost no side effects and is comparatively cheaper. People can also go for counseling and other non chemical treatments like changing ones lifestyle, making it less hectic and sparing time for relaxation and self care. Alcohol intake should be stopped and diet should also be changed if needed with more emphasis being laid on natural foods than processed and packaged ones. People should increase their intake of fruits and vegetables.
